Welcome to Dr. Miku M. Lenentine’s website! Here you will find information about Dr. Miku’s research and teaching interests in environmental social science, ecopsychology, community resilience, mindfulness and working with traditional elders.

Dr. Miku Lenentine works as an environmental social scientist focusing on small group behavior and attitudes associated with the natural world. Her research interests span the fields of ecopsychology, Indigenous wisdom, the human dimensions of natural resource management, environmental planning, and community resilience.

Her current research focuses on identifying Community Resilience Hubs across the island of Oʻahu and supporting community resilience efforts islandwide. Dr. Lenentine is also interested in the integration or “weaving” of Indigenous knowledge systems and western knowledge systems to support community resilience, sustainability, and address climate change. She is specifically interested in the role of higher education in facilitating the creation of solutions and collaboration to this end.

Dr. Lenentine coordinates the Resilience Corps Leaders (RCL) program at the Center for Resilient Neighborhoods (CERENE), where she supervises and mentors students engaged in resilience research and service learning in their communities. She also co-coordinates the TBSE Economics Bridge Program at Kapi’olani Community College, fostering economic resilience through student leadership and research.

Dr. Lenentine teaches a variety of non-credit courses at Kapiolani Community College, including a Climate and Community Resilience Field Research Methods Training, a weekly seminar focused on Community and Climate Resilience, and a weekly applied research methods seminar and leadership professional development for students. Additionally, she teaches courses in mindfulness, meditation, yoga, contemplative pedagogy, compassionate leadership, and forest bathing (森林浴). She is a certified forest bathing guide through the Association for Nature and Forest Therapy and has her 200-hour yoga teacher certification through the Yoga Alliance. She is especially passionate about bringing these wellness for resilience offerings into the classroom, campus and community supporting a culture of resilience and thriving!
